Auto Attendant Sub-menus
A sub-menu is a menu reached from another menu. It lets you keep the first greeting short and branch into detail only for callers who need it.
When to nest
- Departments — "press 2 for support" leads to a support sub-menu: "1 for billing, 2 for technical."
- Languages — "press 9 for French" jumps to a French-language menu.
- After-hours — the closed-hours greeting offers a smaller set of options (leave a message, emergency line).
Building a nested menu
- Create the sub-menu as its own auto attendant with its own greeting and keys.
- In the parent menu, set a key's destination to the sub-menu instead of an extension or group.
- Give callers a way back — reserve a key (often *) to return to the previous menu.
Don't go too deep
Two levels is plenty for almost everyone. Every extra level is a chance for the caller to get lost — always offer a key to reach a real person.
